Something New
Logan had speech therapy today and got a good report. That is always an awesome thing to hear. He has been going for about a month now. She said today that he is so different from when she saw him at evaluation. Hearing things like that make me hopeful that more improvement will come. He also "helped" me unload the dishwasher this afternoon. It is funny because some simple tasks he has problems with and some he does not. I tend to think that he is a visual learner. He is going to "get" it faster if you show him and he sees you doing it. This does not surprise me because I have read that is how a lot of them are. Tonight at the grocery I ran into a friend and was talking to her about the boys. My husband was standing in the checkout line unloading groceries. He comes over to me and says, "Look at what Logan is doing." He was on the end of the cart picking groceries out and setting them on the conveyer to be scanned. He has never done that before. Usuallly when we are in the checkout line he is flipping pages on all the magazines. I end up pissing him off because I try to stop him. However, he keeps doing it over and over and over. I guess it satisfies one of his sensory issues because he put his skin right up next to the pages. I know these little things like the grocery and dishwasher might not seem like big deals. However, when these things happen it is almost like you can see a light bulb going on. These times almost make up for the blank stares and lost looks. Those are frustrating because it is like they are looking right through you. But these good things will hopefully add up into bigger and better things. I figure there are two things I need to do. One is have a positive attitude and the second is to laugh. I will tell you right now if I did not laugh at some of the stuff he does I would go crazy. Take this morning as an example. After the girl I babysit for dropped her daughter off, I locked the door and laid back down. A little while later Zach comes in and says Logan made a mess. He had gotten in the cabniet and got a partial bag of popcorn kernels. They were all over the floor. He was stepping all over them with his bare feet!! Those wonderful sensory issues again. God bless to all.
